MLB suspends Brewers' Abner Uribe, Freddy Peralta, Rays' Jose Siri

MLB suspends Brewers' Abner Uribe, Freddy Peralta, Rays' Jose Siri

Milwaukee Brewers pitchers Abner Uribe and Freddy Peralta were suspended six and five games, respectively, for their roles in Tuesday's benches-clearing incident against Tampa Bay, Major League Baseball announced.

MLB also announced Wednesday that Rays outfielder Jose Siri was handed a three-game suspension for his role in the skirmish. Brewers manager Pat Murphy received a two-game ban for inappropriate conduct toward officials, the league said.

Murphy began serving his suspension during Wednesday's game. Siri was not in the starting lineup for the Rays.

All four parties also received an undisclosed fine for their actions during Tuesday's game, an 8-2 win by the Brewers.

Peralta was tossed after hitting Siri with a pitch with one out in the sixth inning and Milwaukee up 6-1.

Siri, whose 452-foot solo homer in the third inning was the only hit off Peralta, also was ejected in the eighth after exchanging punches with Uribe following a groundout to first base. That scrap led the benches to clear as a scrum broke out.

Murphy also was booted for the second consecutive game. On Monday, he was ejected after arguing a ninth-inning, batter-interference ruling that prevented Milwaukee from scoring the tying run. Tampa Bay held on for a 1-0 win.

Christian Walker hit two home runs, including a game-ending two-run shot in the 10th inning, as the Arizona Diamondbacks stung the Los Angeles Dodgers by picking up a 4-3 victory in Phoenix on Tuesday.

Six Arizona pitchers held the Dodgers to zero RBIs through nine innings as the Diamondbacks won for just the second time in their past six games. The victory came after a one-hour, 55-minute delay at the outset, as a colony of bees formed on the netting behind home plate.

Padres top Reds to snap skid

Padres top Reds to snap skid

Manny Machado knocked in three runs and Yu Darvish fired five scoreless innings in his return from the injured list as the San Diego Padres snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.

Darvish (1-1) allowed three hits and didn't issue a walk, striking out three in his first outing since April 14. After throwing 50 of his 70 pitches for strikes, Darvish left with a 5-0 lead after San Diego reached Nick Martinez (0-2) for four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The big hit came from Machado, who drilled a three-run double on a high sinker from Martinez to make it 4-0. It came after Cincinnati's Luke Maile was called for catcher interference during Jake Cronenworth's at-bat. Machado later scored when Reds left fielder Spencer Steer dropped a fly ball that he seemingly lost in the lights.

The Reds got back into the game against the Padres' bullpen. Jonathan India got Cincinnati on the board in the sixth with a two-run single that scored Elly De La Cruz and Steer to cut the deficit to 5-2.

After Fernando Tatis Jr. brought home a run with a fielder's-choice grounder in the San Diego sixth, Cincinnati pulled within two runs on solo homers by Jeimer Candelario and Stuart Fairchild in the seventh. Candelario logged his third long ball of the year on a deep fly into the right field seats, and Fairchild notched his first with a 407-foot blast to center.

The Angels, who were playing without injured star center fielder Mike Trout (torn left meniscus), have lost 10 of 12.

The Angels extended the lead three batters later on Mickey Moniak's RBI single to right.

Alec Bohm cut the Angels' lead to 5-4 in the eighth when his single to left plated Trea Turner.

JJ Bleday hit two home runs and the Oakland Athletics ran their winning streak to a season-best-tying three games with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

Mitch Spence (3-1) three shutout innings to pick up his third relief win of the year. Lucas Erceg and Mason Miller followed by each striking out the side, with Miller earning his eighth save.

Tyler Nevin and Abraham Toro each had two hits and drove in a run for the A's, who won for the fifth time in six games.

Facing a pitcher against whom he recorded his first major league hit for the Miami Marlins in 2022, Bleday broke a 2-2, fifth-inning tie with a solo shot off Pirates starter Mitch Keller (2-3).

Bleday struck again in the seventh, this time with a two-run shot off Josh Fleming that increased the lead to 5-2.

The multi-homer game was the first of Bleday's three-year career. The center fielder entered the contest with just one long ball this season, on April 2 against the Boston Red Sox.

His three RBIs increased his season total to nine.

Spence came on in relief of Alex Wood after the left-hander struggled through four innings but managed to leave a 2-2 tie. He threw 93 pitches, allowed four hits and four walks and struck out four.

Spence allowed an infield single on his third pitch to Connor Joe, then set down nine in a row.

Joe had his third home run of the season for the Pirates, who dropped their third straight. The solo shot came with two outs in the first inning.

The Mariners broke a scoreless tie in the third. Josh Rojas drew a one-out walk and, an out later, Polanco lined a 1-0 changeup just over the fence in right field. It was Polanco's fourth homer of the season.

Seattle tacked on a run in the fourth after Mitch Haniger lined a one-out single to right. Luke Raley grounded a two-out single to center and Dylan Moore followed with an RBI double to left to make it 3-0.

Consecutive two-out RBI singles from Carlos Correa and Larnach gave the Twins a 5-4 advantage in the top of the eighth.

Andrew Benintendi answered with a game-tying solo homer for the White Sox in the bottom half, but Chicago's bullpen struggles continued as Michael Kopech (0-3) allowed Kepler's sacrifice fly. Byron Buxton, who walked to lead off the inning, scored on the play.

Eloy Jimenez's third-inning RBI single put the White Sox ahead 1-0. Minnesota starter Simeon Woods Richardson yielded four hits in the inning but only one run. Victor Caratini's HR caps Astros' wild win over Guardians

Pinch hitter Victor Caratini slugged a two-run, walk-off home run with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting the Houston Astros to a 10-9 victory over the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday.

Cleveland took a 9-8 lead in the top of the 10th when pinch hitter David Fry produced an RBI double with two outs off Astros closer Josh Hader (1-2), driving home Josh Naylor.

The Guardians pounced on Astros right-hander Hunter Brown for three runs in the first inning but were later forced to rally from a deficit. The Astros put up three runs in the third inning and five in the fourth before Cleveland pulled level with a five-run sixth.

The Guardians had Brown in trouble early, as Naylor followed singles from Steven Kwan and Andres Gimenez with his seventh homer, a one-out, three-run blast the opposite way to left. Brown quickly steadied himself, however, facing the minimum over the subsequent four innings.

When Brown returned to the mound for the top of the sixth, he held an 8-3 lead. The Astros used a pair of three-run homers to flip the game, the first coming from Alex Bregman with two outs in the third off Guardians starter Carlos Carrasco.

Bregman drove home Jon Singleton and Jose Altuve with his first home run this season, a 410-foot shot to left-center field. An inning later, Singleton produced his first homer, another three-run blast on the first pitch after Joey Loperfido delivered a two-run single that provided the Astros a 5-3 lead. It was the first career hit for Loperfido, who was making his major league debut.

Singleton drilled the next offering from Carrasco 431 feet into the second deck in right field. Singleton's first RBIs of the season lifted Houston to an 8-3 advantage.

Brown and Astros reliever Rafael Montero could not hold the lead in the sixth. Brown surrendered a leadoff triple to Kwan and a two-run homer to Gimenez, his first this season, before Montero allowed a line-drive, three-run homer with two outs and a full count to Estevan Florial. It was Florial's third long ball of the year.

Bees delay start of Dodgers-Diamondbacks game

Bees delay start of Dodgers-Diamondbacks game

A colony of bees behind home plate delayed the start of Tuesday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.

Bees started to gather at the top of the screen behind home plate at Chase Field following batting practice but before the 6:40 p.m. local time start.

Umpires called for a delay with no indication whether the game would be played.

"Obviously, it's on the screen at the top of the netting, so if a foul ball hits the screen, what happens to the bees at that point and time? It's sort of an unknown right now," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on the SportsNet LA broadcast.

Umpire crew chief Adrian Johnson was in contact with Major League Baseball and also was discussing the situation with the Arizona Diamondbacks and manager Torey Lovullo.

"Obviously, safety is the most important thing, but as far as the game goes, we have both starters ready to go," Roberts said. "If you delay an hour, you burn both starters, so that's what we're trying to figure out."

The Dodgers were scheduled to send rookie right-hander Landon Knack to the mound, while the Diamondbacks were to counter with left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Both pitchers were set to make their third start of the season.

Perez, a rookie, had three hits and scored three runs. Riley Greene also supplied three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs. Mark Canha scored two runs and knocked in another, while Jake Rogers had two RBIs.

Alec Burleson homered and drove in four runs for St. Louis. Brendan Donovan smacked a two-run homer and Paul Goldschmidt had four hits.

Tyler Holton (2-0) picked up the win in relief for Detroit. Kyle Leahy (0-1) took the loss.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Andy Ibanez singled and Canha walked before Greene's one-out double scored Ibanez. Spencer Torkelson's groundout brought home Canha.

Perez made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second with his first homer of the game, an opposite-field shot.

Detroit scored again in the third on Canha's RBI double.

St. Louis broke through in the fifth. Michael Siani led off with a single and Donovan blasted his third homer of the season.

With two outs in the inning, Nolan Arenado walked and Goldschmidt singled. Holton then entered for Tigers starter Matt Manning and Burleson greeted him with his three-run blast over the left-center field wall, putting the Cardinals ahead.

The advantage didn't last long, as the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-5 lead. Canha singled and Torkelson doubled before Rogers knocked in a run with a groundout. Perez then launched his second homer of the game off Ryan Fernandez.

Burleson's RBI single in the seventh pulled St. Louis within a run.

Detroit answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning for an 11-6 advantage. Greene's seventh homer of the season got it started. Rogers soon followed with an RBI double, Parker Meadows drew a bases-loaded walk and Kerry Carpenter added a sacrifice fly.

The Cardinals used a ninth-inning rally to defeat the Tigers 2-1 in the first game.

DJ Stewart's 3-run bomb lifts Mets over Cubs

DJ Stewart's 3-run bomb lifts Mets over Cubs

DJ Stewart hit a tie-breaking three-run homer Tuesday night for the host New York Mets, who went on to beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 in the second game of a four-game series.

The Mets won for just the third time in nine games. The Cubs have lost three of four.

Sean Reid-Foley (1-0), the first of four Mets relievers, threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief of Sean Manaea.

The Cubs were 1-for-8 with runners on base against Manaea and Reid-Foley from the third through sixth before the Mets took advantage of an error by shortstop Dansby Swanson to snap the 1-1 tie.

Swanson threw the ball away on J.D. Martinez's one-out grounder, and Tyrone Taylor singled with two outs before Stewart's homer off Adbert Alzolay (1-3).

Reed Garrett tossed a hitless seventh, and Adam Ottavino followed with a perfect eighth before Jorge Lopez allowed a run in the ninth while notching his second save.

Stewart was one of seven players with one hit for the Mets. Pete Alonso delivered a sacrifice fly in the first.

Mike Tauchman had two hits for the Cubs, who scored their first run on Miguel Amayo's sacrifice fly in the second inning. Tauchman scored on Matt Mervis' pinch-hit RBI groundout in the ninth.

Cubs starter Javier Assad allowed one run on five hits and no walks while striking out one in five innings. The lefty Manaea gave up one run on three hits and four walks while striking out three. He also went five innings.

The teams traded sacrifice flies in the bottom of the first and top of the second.

Francisco Lindor singled with one out in the first and then appeared to be picked off by Assad, who threw to first as Lindor broke for second. But first baseman Patrick Wisdom's throw sailed wide of second baseman Nico Hoerner covering second, and Lindor raced to third. Lindor then trotted home on Alonso's long fly out to center.

Swanson drew a one-out walk in the second and went to third on a single by Tauchman. Nick Madrigal walked to load the bases, and then Swanson scored on Amaya's fly to left.

Cooper Criswell pitched five strong innings and Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu each collected three hits as the Boston Red Sox beat the visiting San Francisco Giants 4-0 on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series.

Criswell (2-1) limited the Giants to two hits. He walked one and struck out four as Boston recorded its sixth shutout of the season.

Abreu had a single, double and triple, and he also drew a walk. Duran had three singles and walked once.

Rob Refsnyder added two hits for the Red Sox, who scored in each of the first four innings and extended their winning streak to three games. Refsnyder also had two RBIs.

Michael Conforto, Jorge Soler, Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman each had one of San Francisco's four hits, all of which were singles.

Giants starter Logan Webb (3-2) allowed four runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four. Webb threw 91 pitches, 52 for strikes.

Webb entered the game with a 19-inning scoreless streak but was unable to extend the run, as the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Tyler O'Neill singled, moved to second when Abreu walked and scored on a Refsnyder single. O'Neill's single stretched his hitting streak to eight games.

Boston extended its lead to 2-0 in the second when Duran's single drove in Reese McGuire from third. McGuire reached base on a walk.

The Red Sox made it 3-0 when Refsnyder's single scored Abreu in the third. Abreu opened the inning with a double.

It was 4-0 after Duran singled, stole second and scored on Abreu's triple in the fourth.

Garrett Cooper made his Red Sox debut on Tuesday. He started at first base but had to leave the game after he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.

Cooper, 33, was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs last week and was acquired by Boston on Saturday for cash considerations. He went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in his debut.

Royals even series with Jays thanks to 4-1 win

Michael Massey hit a two-run home run, left-hander Cole Ragans struck out nine and the visiting Kansas City Royals defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night.

The Royals ended a three-game losing streak and evened the three-game series with the Blue Jays.

Toronto right-hander Jose Berrios (4-2) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Ragans (2-2) yielded one run, four hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. He left the game with a left calf cramp.

Kansas City took the lead in the second on Massey's first home run of the season. Salvador Perez led off the inning with a single, and Massey followed by blasting a slurve to right-center.

Davis Schneider smacked a single with one out in the bottom of the frame, but he was thrown out by right fielder Hunter Renfroe while attempting to stretch it into a double.

Berrios retired nine batters in a row before Freddy Fermin singled to open the fifth, but Berrios soon got Renfroe to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Toronto scored a run in the sixth. Isiah Kiner-Falefa opened the inning with a single and took third on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s two-out base hit. Bo Bichette, who entered Tuesday in a 2-for-22 funk, then hit an RBI single.

Berrios overcame a single and a walk in the top of the seventh.

Ragans walked Ernie Clement and Kiner-Falefa with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before being visited by the trainer. John Schreiber took over on the mound and ended the inning on a comebacker.

The Royals scored twice in the eighth.

Maikel Garcia singled with two outs against Erik Swanson, stole second and scored on a double into the left field corner by Bobby Witt Jr. Genesis Cabrera entered in relief and allowed an RBI double to Vinnie Pasquantino, who snapped an 0-for-26 drought with the run-scoring hit.

James McArthur pitched a perfect ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.

Dean Kremer's strong start guides Orioles past Yankees

Dean Kremer pitched seven strong innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the visiting New York Yankees for the second straight night, prevailing 4-2 on Tuesday.

Kremer (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks. He struck out four batters and threw 93 pitches. Jacob Webb got the final four outs -- including striking out Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo -- for his first save.

Adley Rutschman had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who helped their pitchers by turning three double plays.

Austin Wells and Juan Soto each a home run and a single for the Yankees.

Yankees starter Nestor Cortes (1-3) went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked two while taking his first loss to the Orioles in 10 career appearances, including eight starts.

With New York trailing 4-2 in the eighth, Anthony Volpe singled off Keegan Akin with one out. After Akin retired Soto, Webb came to face Judge and struck him out with a 3-2 changeup to end the inning.

The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Anthony Santander doubled and Jordan Westburg grounded to Gleyber Torres at second. Torres tried to get Santander racing to third, but the throw hit Santander, who scored on the error.

Wells tied it when he led off the third inning with a home run to center, his first of the year.

The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third, but Westburg flied out.

Jorge Mateo doubled leading off the Baltimore fourth and scored when James McCann doubled with one out. Colton Cowser singled McCann to third and Gunnar Henderson reached on an infield single, scoring McCann. Rutschman followed with a line-drive single to right center, knocking in Cowser to make it 4-1.

With one out in the sixth, Soto homered to right-center off Kremer to cut the lead to 4-2. It was Soto's eighth long ball of the year.

The series continues with games Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon.

Marlins overcome five-run deficit to beat Rockies in 10

Marlins overcome five-run deficit to beat Rockies in 10

The host Miami Marlins -- who trailed by five runs entering the ninth inning -- got a walk-off single to right by Dane Myers in the 10th inning as they rallied to defeat the Colorado Rockies 7-6 on Tuesday night.

Miami snapped a seven-game losing streak, which had been the longest active skid in the major leagues.

Myers went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. He entered the game in the seventh after Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected for arguing a strikeout on a close pitch.

Bryan De La Cruz, who tied the score in the 10th on an RBI double off the fence in left, scored the winning run on a close play at the plate. Catcher Elias Diaz likely would have had the out, but he dropped the ball.

Rockies starter Ryan Feltner pitched a career-high eight innings, but he got a no-decision. Through those first eight innings, he allowed just three hits -- all singles.

But he was removed from the game in the ninth after he allowed the first three hitters to reach -- a single, a hit by pitch and Luis Arraez's RBI double.

The Marlins pounced on reliever Justin Lawrence, who gave up a two-run single to Myers, an RBI hit by pitch to Jesus Sanchez and Emmanuel Rivera's sacrifice fly.

Reliever Jalen Beeks (2-2) entered the game, and he struck out Nick Gordon and got Christian Bethancourt out on a drive to the warning track in left.

Rockies left fielder Jordan Beck singled in his first MLB bat, belting a 1-0 slider to center as part of Colorado's five-run first.

Through the first eight innings, Miami managed singles by Josh Bell in the second, Vidal Brujan in the third; and De La Cruz in the seventh.

Bell was erased by a double-play grounder, and Brujan was caught stealing. De La Cruz's hit was a swinging bunt.

Marlins starter Sixto Sanchez threw 25 first-inning pitches -- 21 of them for strikes. It's possible he threw too many strikes as the Rockies jumped on his arsenal.

That started with leadoff batter Ezequiel Tovar, who doubled on the game's first pitch. Ryan McMahon and Charlie Blackmon drilled two-strike RBI singles to give Colorado a 2-0 lead, and Montero's three-run homer to center traveled 409 feet with an exit velocity of 107.6 mph. That made it 5-0.

After Miami rallied to tie the score in the ninth, Colorado took a 6-5 lead on McMahon's RBI double off Tanner Scott (1-4) in the top of the 10th inning.
